What counts as a dental emergency?+
Pain that wakes you or does not respond to painkillers, facial swelling, a knocked-out tooth, a broken tooth with a sharp edge, a lost crown, and bleeding that will not stop. Swelling that reaches your eye or affects swallowing is a hospital emergency, not a dental one.
My child knocked a tooth out. What now?+
If it is an adult tooth, pick it up by the crown, rinse in milk for no more than ten seconds, put it back in the socket if you can and bite on a clean cloth. If you cannot, keep it in milk and get here inside an hour. A knocked-out baby tooth should not be put back.
Do you see unregistered patients?+
Yes. You do not need to be an existing patient to be seen in an emergency.
What if you are closed?+
We are open Monday to Thursday. Call and follow the instructions on the message. For swelling affecting breathing or swallowing, or jaw trauma, go to the emergency room.

What it costs
An emergency exam with the necessary x-ray generally runs $95 to $180. Treatment cost depends on what we find and is quoted before we start.
Antibiotics are not a fix
We are asked regularly to phone through a prescription without an appointment, and no responsible practice will. Antibiotics reduce a spreading infection for a while; they do not treat the tooth that caused it. The infection returns, usually worse.
Preventing the next one
Most dental emergencies are a small problem that was known about and left. The appointment that prevents one is a routine check-up, at a fraction of the cost.
